The book comprises presentation material, annotated in English and French, used by the author in a symposium on Japanese Kites. All of the images within the presentation have been taken from items in the author's private collection. The book discusses aspects of traditional Japanese kite making but it is not a kite maker's manual.

Paul Chapman is known in the kite community as a kite historian and researcher into the kites and kite flying traditions of Asia. His photography aims not only to capture the moment, but also to provide details that might otherwise remain unknown.
